GEORGE KARMOKOLIAS
George Karmokolias a unique DJ. He cares greatly about not only the music that he plays, but also about his crowd. Despite being relatively new in the scene, he is quickly becoming very well liked by the audiences that hear him. A few years ago, he was asked to be a resident DJ at a small venue in Mykonos, Greece, where he played every day for about three months, giving him the opportunity to really hone in on his set construction and mixing. Since his return to the US, he has held many residencies at different clubs and venues in the Washington DC area. You won't however, find George playing the top dance hits at the poshy clubs. You'll find him playing underground dance music at clubs that offer him a chance to play quality music ranging from filthy minimal tech to breaks to techno. "I don't care about playing at the place that has the flat screen tv's or the most lights or whatever. I want to be in a place that's got a good soundsystem with a booth His hard work and popularity as a DJ amongst the DC crowds landed him as a resident for GLOW, the most important dance party in Washington DC, where he has opened for a wide variety of DJ's known for different styles. In addition to being talented, he's also an extremely humble and approachable DJ that has very adoring and supportive fans. He is also very active amongst them, posting on various message boards and actually doing a good job of keeping in touch with people that contact him. "It's mostly just in my nature to be a social and good person, but even beyond that...those people that come out to hear me play and have a good time when I'm on the decks, are a huge part of why I get to do what I do as a dj. Why wouldn't I want to be there for them too?" Recently, George has been collaborating with Breakfast (Flashover Recordings) and producing some music that has gotten a very good response from the crowds when they play out. "It's awesome working with him. It's fun just because we get together, talk about all sorts of different stuff and make music at the same time. I think we're going to start going by the name of our first track, which was Real Monsters. But then again, with the two of us, you never know what's going to happen. We get together with the intention of making a minimal track and it turns out to be some club banger. I guess we'll all just see where things go." George Karmokolias is a DJ not to miss, and certainly one to keep your eyes on. For more info about him and where else he's playing, check him out at www.myspace.com/thekarmidance |
