Opening duties Tuesday night @ GLOW belonged to special guest Jerome Isma-Ae. The Munich-based artist is without question a DJ’s DJ, a producer’s producer, a master of progressive dance. With releases on Anjuna, Armada, Vandit, and Coldharbour to name a few, it’s clear his skills are respected by the best of the very best. The way he moves and hypes a crowd is scary. With tracks like Cirez D – Glow and an unbelievable remix of the classic “Missing” by Everything But the Girl, you would have thought he was the headliner. To be honest, he would have been on any other night. Seriously, who else can legitimately remix Michael Jackson without being corny? To put it simply, the only way to follow an act like Jerome Isma-Ae is if your name is Armin van Buuren.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of experiencing AVB on more than one occasion may think they can predict the future. They may believe they can call what songs he’ll spin and when he’ll spin them. They may even have the balls to assume that ever since he became # 1 his track selection has lost some of its ‘oompf,’ and that he no longer possesses that work horse mentality from the old days.

They would be wrong.

Armin van Buuren crowd shot nightclubs dcWhether you’re new to EDM or a fan of over 10 years, Armin is king. He hard and fast, bringing the ruckus at a feverish pace. There were many points throughout the evening where the crowd was almost louder than the music. DC truly loves Armin. And Armin truly loves DC. With his arms raised to the sky in his signature pose, Armin repeatedly bowed to the adoring masses. There was not one moment during the evening when the world’s #1 wasn’t jumping out of his shoes and grinning ear to ear.

Flashbacks to the early days, visions of epic nights past, a taste of today’s current flavors and preludes to what the future has in store; Armin truly knows how to hold an audience in the palm of his hand. He never ceases to amaze. He is the quintessential facilitator of euphoria, made apparent by tracks like Faithless – Not Going Home (AVB remix), Gaia – Aisha and the definitive combination of pop and underground; Cirez D – On Off mixed with Armin van Buuren f/ Sharon den Adel – In and Out of Love. He closed things out with Giuseppe Ottaviani’s remix of PVD’s “We Are One” and encored with BT f/ Jes – Every Other Way (AVB Remix).

*sigh* He can’t come back soon enough. Words just don’t do an evening with Armin any justice. The music, the crowd, his unparalleled energy, it’s the entire package. If you were there, you understand. If you weren’t… you need to reevaluate your priorities.
