The resurrection continues. On the eve of Easter Sunday Calvin Harris came to Club Glow and continued to pour cement on the foundation built by David Guetta. The crowd came early and swelled within the walls of the main room at Fur Nightclub. Opening things up was Glow resident Jon Deke, who got everyone’s blood flowing with hard, upbeat, ‘throw your hands in the air and go crazy’ tunes.
As Harris took control of the 1’s and 2’s his looming presence commanded the full attention of everyone in the room. With a sea of hands raised to the sky and bodies flailing wildly before him, Harris dropped bomb after bomb of what can only be described as ‘wylin party music.’ He was able to mix hard, progressive riffs in with that ‘make em go crazy’ sound made famous to the mainstream by Chuckie and LMFAO in “Let The Bass Kick in Miami Bitch.” As Harris got more and more into it, his body language said it all. He stood as though he were in attack mode; one leg forward, one leg back, feet shoulder width apart, shoulders rocking to and fro with asperity. Shaking his head, stomping around and whipping his long arms in the air, it was obvious that Calvin was possessed by the music. His energy was returned tenfold by the crowd, which was absolutely bonkers.
A sampling of The King of Electropop’s track list tells the story; Armand van Helden – NYC Beat, The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (Axwell and Dirty South Remix), a super bouncy remix of “Ready for the Weekend.” At one point he mixed “Flashback” into more wylin’ beats, stopped the music, dropped “I’m Not Alone,” and went straight into “Pjanoo.” It was fucking nuts!! And fucking packed!!
As Harris left the booth to wild cries of adoration, he took one last look at the loving patrons of DC nightlife and knew he had found a new home. The next morning his twitter read, “WOW Washington DC went off! Definitely one of my favourite places.” It’s you, the crowd, Glow Heads and fans of DC Clubbing everywhere that keep these superstar DJs coming back. It’s your undying support of Glow that makes it all possible. Thanks!! And keep coming back!!
Club Glow is held every Thursday night at Lima Restaurant and Lounge and every Saturday at Fur Nightclub. For the past 11 years, Glow has brought the biggest names in electronic dance music to the best DC nightclubs and is the leader in DC Nightlife.
