Menno de Jong came to The District Saturday night and showed us why he is the master of Intuition. From smooth, mellow ‘on the beach’ grooves; to driving, bang – out monsters and finally summing it up by re-defining the term epic; Menno truly embodied the spirit of trance. Reminiscent of the ‘glory days,’ when spinning energetic, eclectic and epic tunes was worth more than mixing the overplayed vocals everyone expected, de Jong was symbolic of trance at its finest. From remixed classics to new releases and everything in between, the 25 year – old Dutch phenom was utterly brilliant.

Menno reached deep into his trance – filled pockets and pulled out a decade’s worth of gems. Early on he dropped one of Jose Amnesia’s 2010 mixes of Karen Overton’s 2005 hit ‘Loving Arms,’ and then a somewhat progressive take (CG remix?) on John O’Callaghan f/ Sarah Howells – Find Yourself. Spread throughout the rest of the evening was a driving mix of trance that had the nicely sized Glow crowd going absolutely bonkers. Included were Faithless – Not Going Home (AvB remix), Mr. Pit – This Room Is Not Big Enough, Mat Zo – 24 hours, Ali Wilson – Pandora, and Dustin Zahn – Stranger to Stability (Len Faki Podium Mix), a song many glow DJs have been spinning lately. As the evening progressed Menno got more and more wild. It was heartening to have a DJ guide the evening as well as Menno did. That’s what we go out for. It’s not to hear 1 specific song, or at least it shouldn’t be. It’s to have one of the world’s best take us on a musical journey by breaking you in, driving you to madness and letting you down by lifting you up with epic sensation. Menno ended the evening with the classic Binaray Finary – 1998 (Alex M.O.R.P.H. remix) and another track which needs to be ID’d. Check the “More Menno Videos” post and ID the songs and you’ll get a free round at the next event you’re at.

Menno de Jong truly is the future. With his tall frame, good looks and charming nature, he’s got it all. Look for Menno to rise to the top and carry trance for years to come. He’s got new material due out at the end of the summer (some of which he spun Saturday night) and of course, Menno de Jong continues to display unparalleled musical Intuition.
