For 15+ years Paco Osuna has delivered and acquired music to and from every corner of the globe. His ability to infuse a minimal soundscape with his upbeat personality, attention to minutia and eclectic, international flavor is a testament to where techno has been and where it is headed.

The Spanish techno master was in DC last Thursday performing at the recently opened (3/17/10) U Street Music Hall. Owned and operated by local DJs WIll Eastman and Jesse Tittsworth, UMH is all about the music. No bottle service, no tough guy bouncers, no dress code, no lasers. It’s a large room with a massive sound system and minimal lights. And being that it’s underneath a bank and 7/11 on U Street, it truly embodies that ‘underground’ vibe.

With acts like Dubfire, Nadastrom, Michael Mayer and Derrick Carter; as well as a potential partnership with local techno promoters 88DC (who booked Paco), U Street Music Hall is quickly gaining a reputation for having great music without the frills. If you enjoy artists who are forward thinking, who push the envelope and who are truly underground, UMH is the place to be.
