It’s doubtful you’ll ever again have the opportunity to see Paul Oakenfold at a venue as up close and personal as Lima. Until Glow brings him back, that is!! The legend himself was in the District last Thursday showcasing the skills that have kept him amongst DJ Mag’s top 25 for the past 13 years.

Opening and closing duties belonged to Perfecto A&R chief Kenneth Thomas. His opening set included the red hot ‘Downpipe’ on Toolroom Records. His closing set was near flawless, highlighted by Cirez D – On Off, U2 – With or Without You (ID Remix?) and a mash up of Gabriel and Dresden’s ‘Tracking Treasure Down,’ for which words simply will not do justice.

Only the greatest shows on earth can claim to have regular gigs in Vegas. Paul Oakenfold is one of them. As the titan of trance took the decks it was clear we were in the presence of a true legend. Starting things off with progressive, ‘rubbery’ trance, Oakenfold established an uplifting vibe with room to bend. This is the man who helped define trance as we know it. A dense Club Glow crowd, hands raised to the sky; bended, swayed and leaped enthusiastically as Oakey dropped bombs like Tim Berg – Alcoholic, Swedish House Mafia – One, Afrojack – Pacha on Acid, Adagio for Strings, the remix of Red Chili Peppers – By the Way that everyone loves so much, Southern Sun (possibly the greatest trance tune of all time) and the consummate tear jerker Mr. Brightside (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)… * sigh * that one always gets ya.

Without question Paul proved (like he even had to) why he has never fallen out of DJ Magazine’s top 25. A pioneer, a showman and a true legend. Paul Oakenfold came to Lima and left DC Clubbing with feelings of exhilaration, nostalgia, and hunger for more. Can’t wait til he comes back!!!

Kenneth Thomas was AMAZING. Period. Enough said. T-h-e BEST set I have seen in ALL of the glow shows I have seen at ALL locations. He was REDCIOULSLY GOOD!!! That old Danny T. remix he played took me back. KT’s set was completely killer. Out of this world. Oakey was pretty damn great too. Great night of music.
