Kaskade mixing ‘Move for Me’ into ‘Another Chance’

Summer is here (it doesn’t matter what your calendar says, it’s hot out) In what was easily one of his best sets of the year, Rich Webb dropped gem after gem, engraining a feeling of island-like debauchery within the walls of Fur Nightclub. His smooth, light, melodic style had Glow fans tilting their heads to the sky. He left Ryan Raddon, better known to the world as Kaskade, with quite a handful.

As he stood in front of the densely packed audience, clad in flip-flops and a leather jacket, Kaskade dove right into the style that has made him famous in the EDM community. Light riffs painted across beautiful melodies. He dropped the title track to his freshly released Dynasty album early on to set the tone. About an hour and a half into what ended up being a 3.5 – hour set, Raddon was somehow able to shift the mood from light and melodious to bass-heavy and driving. The change wasn’t noticeable until the last moment, when the bass engulfed you, the mark of a great DJ. A mash-up of ‘Satisfaction,’ as well as Meck f/ Dino – Feels Like a Prayer (Michael Woods Remix), which samples Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer,’ set that new tone.

Kaskade is one of the more animated DJs to spin Glow, but not in the typical arms-raised-to-the-sky-I’m-Jesus sense. He just sort of rocks out in his own little word; waiving his hands around like a rap star; completely focused while mixing and then completely amused as he gazes into the crowd. For a minute there he was reckless with it, spinning that wild out house reminiscent of Guetta and Calvin Harris. And then, as discretely as he took us there, he brought us home. He waited so long to drop 4AM it was almost criminal!!! When the set was over Kaskade grabbed the mic, thanked the Glow fans for coming out, did individual meet and greets in the booth, and then decided to play a little more!

Highlights: Red Hot Chili Peppers – By the Way (Rene Amesz and Peter Golderblom Remix), Kaskade and Deadmau5 – Move for Me, Kaskade and Tiesto – Only You, Kaskade – 4AM (Adam K & Soha Remix), Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream (Kaskade Remix??), Swedish House Mafia – One, which was absolutely nuts, and Gui Boratto – No Turning Back.
