H O L Y S H I T! That is about all that can be really said about last Saturday at Fur. When ATB comes to DC nightlife it means one thing….it’s going to be a night to remember. A night to remember not only for the classic trance sounds that seem to have been forgotten these last couple years, but also for a euphoric and uplifting clubbing experience.

Before ATB took the decks, the crowd was treated to an opening set from upcoming talent, Josh Gallahan. Josh’s sounds have been featured countless times on ATB’s own compilations. But when ATB took the decks around 1am, DC nightlife went fucking crazy. People raised their hands to the air, chanting “ATB, ATB, ATB;” the sound reverberating throughout the club. The infamous glowheads were out in force and for a just reason, ATB was playing Glow. And that usually means a balls-to-the-wall set from start to finish.

Starting his set with his famous trance anthem of the new century, Ecstasy, every glow fan knew it was going to be an epic night.  He quickly transitioned in Mat Zo’s Synape Dynamics (Arty Remix) which blew the roof off. ATB fed on the energy of the audience. He danced harder and yelled louder. Taking the mic in one hand and mixing with the other hand, ATB did it all. He called on DC nightlife to lose all control. There were points where he would filter the music out and shout “Lets fucking go Washington DC” and the crowd erupted.

While one might think that ATB only plays classic trance tunes, one would be mistaken. Transitioning from Cosmic Gate’s Ragin (Alexander Popov Remix) to Du Haste by Rammstein to World Is Mine by David Guetta to Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo, ATB truly showed his musical, mixing talents. He played the cue button of the CDJs which in turn created massive buildups which dropped into some of the most epic beats and melodies. He dropped This Night (Max Graham Remix) by Filo & Peri, Somewhere I Belong by Allure (Tiesto) feat. Julie Thompson, 9pm (Till I Come) and Could You Believe. While ATB dropped some of the finest tunes to date, he also previewed many of his new songs from his up and coming album, Distant Earth.

Currently sitting in at #11 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Djs, ATB is among the best. His unique combination of not only trance music, but also disco house, hard dance and house music, creates a seamless mix. At no point during his set was DCnightlife not moving. ATB doesn’t just bring his dj mixing skills to the table, he brings a wonderful entertaining experience. Be sure to catch his newest album, Distant Earth, when it drops early April.
