This is DC! This past Thursday, DC nightlife was treated to the sounds of house legend Sander Kleinenberg. Known for his infamous house anthem, This Is Ibiza, and his iconic back-to-basics sound, Sander K recently released his fourth artist album, 5k. Over the last couple of years, Sander has started to video DJ and because of this, Lima Lounge was fitted with 5 LCD screens which corresponded to what Sander was pumping out. Like always, the energy and atmosphere inside Lima was electric.

Beginning with an opening set from up-and-coming tech-house monsters Pleasurekraft, the crowd was immediately thrown into the world of true house music. The type of music you truly feel, moving your body from side-to-side and just grooving out. Sander took the decks and immediately began to pump out a feel-good, uplifting, bouncy house set. He dropped You’ve Got The Love (Mark Knight mashup) by Florence and The Machine, Downtown (Andy Duguid Remix) by Dennis Ruyer, Secrets In The Dark (Alex Kenji Remix) by Chris Lake and an amazing remix of house anthem, Touch Me by Cassandra Fox & Rui da Silva. Near the end of his set, Sander grabbed the microphone and told the remaining crowd that he was bringing us back 20 years to the real days of house. He proceeded to play classic disco house jams; it was the type of EDM that popularized the genre during the 90s and the type of house music that is rarely played today.

Sander’s set was a jewel of the past. Rather than playing the top 40 house music that seems to have taken over the billboard charts and DJ’s live sets, Sander went back to the basics. His set was not only enjoyable and fun to listen too, but it was definitely one of the grooviest sets heard in a while. For all of DC nightlife that witnessed Kleinenberg’s set, they witnessed the sounds of a lost genre; house music.
