ALBUM REVIEW | M.I.K.E. pres. New York City Nights

As one of the founding fathers of modern trance, M.I.K.E. aka Push has literally pushed the boundaries of melody-driven trance. His track “Universal Nation” is considered by many to be one of the true classics. Having recently moved to the Big Apple, M.I.K.E.’s latest compilation, “New York City Nights,” succeeds in capturing the spirit of The City That Never Sleeps. An excellent combination of progressive and trance, “New York City Nights” puts your ear to the pulse of NY.

The 2xCD contains 26 unedited tracks and two continuous mixes. M.I.K.E.’s selections are reminiscent of the traditional style of trance, with heavy hitting kicks and syncopated hi-hats. The melodies melt from note to note, dripping deep into an electronic abyss. There’s an overall ambient feel paired alongside hard-hitting rhythms, allowing for a limitless spectrum of dance; whether you want to bob your head or dance until your legs cramp. The build-ups are long and well worth the wait. When the bass drops you’ll be lost in the music.

The mix contains hand-picked selections by Armin van Buuren, Andy Moor, The Thrillseekers, Markus Schulz and many more. M.I.K.E. has truly created a mix that flows seamlessly from one song to the next. Be sure to check out his remix of Andy Moor’s “She Moves” and Ben Gold’s “Sapphire (Trance Mix)”.

NYC’s spirit radiates through this sublime compilation.“I wanted to create that same feeling like you’re just driving down 5th Avenue or Broadway at any hour and feel the city’s vibrant atmosphere, inspiring every sense of your body,” states M.I.K.E. Mission accomplished.
