Weird in the Best Possible Way.
Mad Decent’s new Jeffree’s sub-label releases everything from house to rap to dubstep, but the common thread holding it all together is that it’s weird, in the best way possible.
The newest release is a 3 track EP from 22 y/o London-based producer Raf Riley. “Dog Unit” is a collection of three aggressive tear-out dubstep-ish tunes that showcase diverse influences from neon-sounding synths to car alarm samples to electro saw basslines.
Part 3 features everything from Lex Luger-style horns to 16-bit arpeggios to industrial clangs. It’s an apocalyptic dubstep symphony that sounds like the Tudor family ordering beheadings in the year 2099. As Mad Decent’s Paul Devro writes, “it probably won’t make sense until armageddeon so until then we’ll just listen to it everyday until it makes sense.”
