Long-time dance music staple Jody Wisternoff of Way Out West has announced the release of his debut album! Titled “Trails We Blaze,” the 15+ year EDM veteran releases his work via Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep imprint on Monday, May 28th. You can pre-order an autographed CD (limited supply) at the anjuna store.
Wisternoff made his name as 1/2 of the famed Way Out West duo, alongside Nick Warren. Tracks like “The Gift,” “Ajare,” “Mindcircus,” and “Killa” all established their world-class reputation.
Before that, at 13, he made the finals of the DMC DJ Championships and was producing hip-hop soon after. He also helped pioneer the early UK rave sound as part of breakbeat outfit Sub Love.
His diverse background combines to form “Trails We Blaze.” Blending elements of house, nu disco, progressive, techno and bass; the album puts Jody’s personal journey through music into 12 diverse pieces, referencing his classic and contemporary influence.
Representing Jody’s modern take on Balearic beats, tracks like “How You Make Me Smile” (feat. Pete Josef) and the nu-disco influenced “Just One More” are both soulful and sophisticated, perfect for balmy summer nights.
The album features a darker side as well. Looking back on his years lost in Bristol bass bins, the hypnotic techno-driven “95” and the hip-hop infused “Red Stripes” display Jody’s love of vintage jungle. Reworks of the Pete Tong-endorsed “Starstrings’ and the Beatport # 1 “Cold Drink, Hot Girl” update two of his most classic solo tracks.
