2012 An Up Year For EDM Commodity Paper Diamond

2012 has been huge for Paper Diamond. The seasoned producer/DJ who uses an iPad during shows only recently broke through EDM’s glass ceiling. With one big thing happening after the next, we’ve outlined the Pretty Lights Music artist’s achievements this year, leading up his performance at Steez Promo’s “Mega” event on November 30 at Echostage. Fall 2011

Paper Diamond’s hype machine started gaining mainstream momentum when (no pun intended) he hit #1 on Hype Machine’s charts for his single ‘Can’t We Go Up.’ This was sort of like the chill before the storm.

February 2012

Pretty Lights Music tour with with Paul Basic and SuperVision.

June 2012

The Tiger Style Tour with special guest Minnesota. Paper Diamond also became the newest addition to Diplo’s Mad Decent label, as his unique style intertwines perfectly with the Mad Decent sound. Maybe it was the high altitude that made his music bizarre enough for Diplo to sign, who knows. Regardless, his tracks are straight fire and hit home with many Mad Decent fans. Since then he has released multiple free singles and mixes, and one of his biggest was his remix of Usher’s “Climax.” He puts a spin on the smooth track and adds his own flavor that makes it less love-making and more club-bumping.

July 2012

Paper Diamond went on to release a new track with Russ B called “Time Flies”. Heavily influenced by hip-hop sounds, heavy bass and catchy electro undertones, this tune is the perfect chill-record. Just listen.

August 2012

This is when Paper Diamond announced something BIG – the Elm & Oak Academy at the Colorado University of Boulder campus. The goal of this is to teach Generation Z and beyond about what they have done to create success in the field of art and music. It is held 2-3 times a semester and teaches students everything from music production, the business side of the music industry, and even contemporary art.

Elm & Oak is PD’s record label, design shop and clothing line that delivers inspiration and creativity to Colorado and beyond. The shop is located in the heart of downtown Boulder and features a monthly art event show that showcases local and non-local artists. Along these monthly art shows comes a musical performer and an afterparty at a nearby venue.

Present

PD’s latest venture includes his Night Vision Tour with supporting acts such as Elliot Lipp, The Knocks, Crizzly and Morri$. In the video below you can see the incredible stage setup designed by the Elm & Oak team, which he will be bringing along to cities across the country.
