(Los Angeles, California) – Sonny Moore won three of his five Grammy nominations this weekend at the biggest music awards show in North America.
The man better known as Skrillex picked up top honors in Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album for “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites.” He also won Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remix of Benny Benassi – Cinema.
Skrillex was also nominated for Best Short Form Music Video (Equinox) and Best New Artist alongside The Band Perry, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and eventual winner Bon Iver.
“I made this song in my bedroom when I was living illegally in a warehouse in downtown L.A… This is really crazy for me, man.”
– Sonny Moore aka Skrillex
The list of artists that Skrillex beat is rather impressive. It includes Avicii, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, Afrojack, Duck Sauce (A-Trak and Armand van Helden), Robyn and Cut/Copy
Putting the spotlight on the winner was veteran artist Deadmau5, hitting the red carpet in a t-shirt bearing Moore’s cell number and a short message:
“1 (626) 319-1039
u mad bro?”
Deadmau5 voiced his congratulations for Skrillex’s multiple nominations but warned him early on that an epic trolling was coming. Post-prank, the artist bragged via twitter, “Maximum trolling achieved.”
The ‘Scary Monsters Nice Sprites’ EP was originally released on Deadmau5’s Mau5trap record label in October of 2010. It controlled the entire Beatport top 10 for nearly a month.
