“I don’t want to be a bad role model; I don’t want to set a bad example. That’s very important to me” says Martin Garrix to DJ Mag after winning the number one spot on DJ Mag’s Top 100. It’s no surprise that Martin won the coveted spot, just take a look at his millions of fans on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and his 900 million+ views on Youtube. The now 20-year-old started his career in 2013 when he was just 16 with his major hit, Animals, which is still played regularly in clubs around the world.  His infectious tracks and eye-catching shows have led him to perform at major festivals such as Ultra, Tomorrowland, and Coachella as well as start his own record label where he released his new track “In the Name of Love” with Bebe Rexha.

Aliases (that we know of): Area21

Played guitar for about 6-7 years

Favorite animal: loves lions but wants to be a bird “because what I’d really want to do is fly and see the world from above.”

Favorite past time: Sleeping: “I am a boss at sleeping. I can sleep anywhere and anytime!”

First gig at 14 years old for 400 people in his hometown of Amstelveen

First album he purchased: Parade of the Athletes by Tiesto (who later became his mentor!)
