What is there to say, really, about Benny Benassi’s most recent trip to DC. The real stars of the evening were all of you, the fans. You guys brought Fur to the tipping point Saturday night. The club truly came alive. And all this was happening before Benny entered the building!!

As he peeked over the shoulder of Glow resident Rich Webb, well, I’m sure you can imagine. Raukus cheers, chants of “Benn-y! Benn-y! Benn-y,” and just utter commotion. The Italian superstar was able to calm the crowd for about 30 minutes with a filtered, cymbal – driven open and some soothing, bouncy electro that really established his presence. He was trying to get everyone to relax. There was a lot of dancing to be done and he didn’t want to wear you guys out.

As the night progressed, so did Benny’s style, track selection and the crowd’s level of recklessness. It was really amazing to watch him go from that soothing bounce to more of an uplifting, melodic feel and then into just total madness. Circa 2AM he started playing tracks with these crazy, almost tribal drums and super twangy, bass – heavy madness. That’s when the night turned. It’s safe to say that Fur Nightclub has never heard noises and sounds like that before. BB’s track selection was unreal. It’s still tough to get over those rolling African – style drums on top of those uber electro sounds. Absolutely amazing! It was those sounds with which he chose to mix in ‘Satisfaction,’ and it was utterly brilliant.

Benny Benassi doesn’t mix music. He mixes feelings, vibes, and states of mind. There wasn’t a single dull moment the entire night. And that’s really saying something. No matter what DJ you’re listening to, you can usually find a moment to step away for a bathroom break, cigarette, or breathe of fresh air. Not with Benny. We’re not sure how he did it, but he didn’t allow for one lull the entire night. That, was the most impressive part of his set.

Closing things out, Benny started dropping unreleased tracks from his upcoming album; specifically ‘Spaceship,’ which was of course unbelievable. Ah yes, Benny Benassi is absolutely amazing. And as a special treat, he got DJ Moutso to come out of retirement for the second time in a week to close things out!!!

I thought Benny was great Valentines 2009, but he really outdid himself this past Saturday! Great crowd with most people really having a good time and not catching much attitude. Just great music and people enjoying the show. Spectacular! Thanks Glow
