Famed Spanish duo Chus & Ceballos brought their celebration of life, love, and music to DC Clubbing Thursday evening.

The majority of techy/tribal DJs nowadays seem to pride themselves on spinning dark, looming beats: the kind of music where you put on your ‘serious dance face’ and vibe menacingly within the crowd. Not DJs Chus and Pablo Ceballos. The creators of the Iberican Sound have somehow managed to create, as they put it, “warm, inviting tribal soundscapes,” that allow crowds to actually smile while listening to the tribal/techy stuff. The fact that C&C are all smiles themselves helps!

Their DJ savvy is matched few and far between. And that’s not up for debate. In an era of dance music where being a DJ/producer (as opposed to one or the other) is a necessity, a majority of artists are more known for their productions as opposed to their skills on the 1s and 2s. It’s clear however, that Chus & Ceballos not only invented their own genre of house, but have continuously improved their performance skills over the years. The icing on the cake is the mutual respect they share with tribal house legend Danny Tenaglia. Note to clubbers: if Danny Tenaglia endorses someone they are more than amazing, case and point.

As they dropped remixes of Lusine – 2 Dots, Roger Sanchez – 2gether and Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Drum, the animated Lima crowd closed their eyes, put on their largest smiles and tipped their heads back to the sky. Other highlights included Mark Knight – Sax, Paolo Mojo – He’s the Man (Saeed Younan remix), Oscar G. & Ralph Falcon – Dark Beat [Addicted 2 Drums] (Chus & Ceballos remix), and Mory Kante – Yekke Yekke (Ceballos Edit).
