Opening their set with John Dahlback’s famous Pyramid (Dirty South Remix), told DC nightlife they were in for a Swedish treat. Known to the world by their separate DJ-aliases, John Dahlback and Albin Myers brought the heat to Lima Lounge Washington DC this past Thursday 2/10/11. MyBack (Myers & Dahlback), for short, played nothing but an amazing set. With no pauses or breaks, John & Albin’s sound catered to the balls-to-the-wall type of crowd and like always, the DC crowd responded exactly how MyBack wanted. As the two of them shared the mixer and DJ duties, the loud, electronic, ferocious atmosphere of Lima grew.

John and Albin’s set was not for the faint of heart. It was purely electro, sprinkled with some progressive house sounds. Usually having no problem creating a mental track list to supplement the DJ set, MyBack threw down so much unreleased, exclusive material that it was hard to name what was coming through the speakers. They didn’t play the stereotypical popular electro-house tunes like songs by deadmau5 or Wolfgang Gartner, rather they played the lesser known gems. MyBack’s set satisfied even the most stubborn EDM listener. People lost control. Michael Wood’s Nitro, a wonderful remix of the Freemasons’ Uninvited, There 4 You (MyBack Club Edit) by Albin Myers, an effing amazing remix of Delerium’s Silence and a great mashup of Steve Angello’s Knas with Dirty South’s Let It Go.

They nearly brought the house down at one point with an insane dub step drop that had albin’s mohawk aimed at the crowd has he moshed his way around the booth. As Dahlback, the mild-mannered DJ focused on tweaking those knobs, Myers, the wild man, pumped his fist, grabbed the crowd, and high passed the music into thunderous drops.

Rarely do you get such great producers come together to play their own unique sound. Albin’s massive mohawk and Dahlback’s gentle smiles and hand waves really made the night. Lima Washington DC was packed and for a justified cause, MyBack played a dirty set.
