Deadmau5 maintains a close relationship with his fans and his detractors by talking shit on twitter, posting on his blog and collaborating with whomever he sees talent in.
A few months ago, he read a short story by Ray Bradbury called “The Veldt.”
Inspired by the story, he wrote a soundtrack of sorts and posted it on his soundcloud. Soon enough an unknown user named Chris James read the story and laid down some vocals on the track.
Deadmau5 not only heard and reposted James’ version, but released it as an EP on Ultra Records with remixes from Freeform Five and Tommy Trash. On top of that, he just released a video for the track. If you’re smart you’re tweeting your latest track to Mr. Zimmeran @deadmau5
The video features the children from The Veldt in cel-shaded imagery from indie game developer Playdead’s recent hit “Limbo.” It’s an interesting contrast between mau5’s uplifting synth work and the creepy yet adventurous themes.
The vocals give the track a heady sense of purpose as opposed to the same old “put your hands up” vibe.
