Skrillex Touches Down With The Birds

Introducing The Nest by OWSLA
Breaking the barrier between fan, artist and label

What is it?

The Nest is a subscription-based imprint (sub-label) housed under OWSLA. The first material will be available January 2nd, 2013. It’s kinda like a digital fan club. For $12/month, subscribers get:

  • All OWSLA recordings on or before their release dates
  • Weekly free downloads exclusive to The Nest featuring rising artists to help foster their talent and expose them to a wider audience.
  • Exclusive remixes
  • DJ sets
  • Acapellas and remix parts
  • Eearly access to event tickets
  • Ppgrades to VIP for key OWSLA events
  • 20% off OWSLA merch
  • Access to meet and greets
  • Exclusive Nest live chats and Ustreams

The first release on The Nest will be the M Machine remix of “Middle Finger” by Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boys Noize)

Subscribing to The Nest today will get you access to OWSLA’s 2011 Treats and 2012 Treats, two previously unreleased compilations showcasing some of the label’s most noteworthy releases. As an extra bonus, those who sign up before 12/31 will be entered to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Ultra 2013 in Miami, including airfare, VIP passes and hotels for two.

“The Nest is another chance for us to get music out to the fans quicker and easier. It’s a step into the unknown future of music which is exciting, and it allows us to keep our fans up on fresh content and bring up some new artists we love”

“… there are so many constraints on what we could put out and when. We didn’t have enough bandwidth for all the great stuff we wanted to share with the world… Normally we’d give these tracks to key DJs a week before release, but these are so exclusive, literally the only way you can get them first is through The Nest. It’s different from anything we’ve done before.”

– Blaise Deangelo (A&R)

“It lets us move even faster than we do: Find a song and have it posted that day, that hour.”

– Tim Smith (Blood Company, Skrillex Management)

When they say exclusive, they mean exclusive.

The service is something between subscription streaming and paid downloads with a twist of exclusivity that could only work for brands with pre-existing, loyal fan bases. Diplo and A-Trak use the same engine for their widely popular labels.

Launched by Skrillex, his management, and media agency Biz3 in August 2011, OWSLA has put out tracks from Porter Robinson, Zedd, Seven Lions, Damian Marley and more. It’s bass-focused with an appreciation for the melodic, soulful and cutting edge.

“To get otherwise-unavailable music directly from the source, the proper version and the format they need, before anywhere else, we feel our fans will pay a reasonable monthly fee,” says Deangelo.
