About Annual Shawne Merriman “Lights On Foundation” Coat Drive:
Shawne Merriman and The Lights On Foundation has partnered with the Maryland Athletics Department and University Relations for the past 12 years to collect gently-used coats, hats, scarves and other cold weather clothing for those in need during the winter months. Every winter thousands of local community members do not have adequate winter wear and Shawne feels that nobody should go without a coat in the harsh winter months. Through the Coat Drive, the Lights On Foundation has collected more than 20,000 coats and warm weather items for the homeless individuals in the Maryland and Washington D.C. communities. This year we are hoping to continue the tradition of raising thousands of garments so that community members can have a warm winter.
About Shawne Merriman:
This former 3 x NFL Pro Bowler & All Pro, Shawne Merriman grew up in Maryland and went to school at the University of Maryland. Merriman was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. Throughout his career and well into his retirement, Merriman has dedicated himself to giving back and having a positive impact the community. Since retiring from the NFL, Merriman has made a name for himself as a knowledgeable and skilled commentator for networks such as ESPN, NFL Network, FOX Sports and frequently works with the WWE. In addition to his thriving career as a broadcaster, Merriman has created an empire for himself through various “Lights Out” branded ventures including an online retail store (www.lightsoutbrand.com), and various clean living and solar power projects.
