Eric Prydz Show Review from his performance at GLOW

Just as the three-headed dog guards the gates of the Greek Underworld, so too do Eric Prydz/Pryda/Cirez D guard the gates of house. Quiet and reserved, taking in his surroundings, crouching, patiently waiting; Prydz allowed the Glow crowd to enter with safety, moving closer and closer until it was too late. He struck first as Cirez D, with dizzying chords strumming across throbbing bass lines. Words simply cannot do justice to the infusion of life that surged through the crisp sound system of Lima Restaurant & Nightclub. Unleashing tracks like the dark and ominous “On Off” was his way of telling followers, “this is how house was meant to be played.”

DJ Rap put on a crazy show at Glow Washington DC!

Club Glow has gone global. DJ Rap brought the wild rumpus straight to the living rooms of 5000 fans as she streamed live during her set at Lima Restaurant & Lounge. Turning her computer to the crowd, back to her and then dancing something fierce, Rap cultivated an air of glitz, glam and red carpet pageantry which was appropriate, as certain celebrities (who shall remain nameless) were in attendance… TMZ eat your heart out!

Ferry Corsten is ready to rock DC!

With nominations for Best European DJ and Best Radio Mix Show DJ (Corsten’s Countdown) at this year’s International Dance Music Awards in Miami, Ferry Corsten continues to be a leading force in trance on a global level. He never seems to take a break, constantly pushing the boundaries of music through DJing and producing. He truly is an innovator.

Gareth Emery rocked at Glow DC last Saturday

As he took the reigns Saturday night, he was like a kid in a candy store. With a boyish grin he let loose on Fur’s blaring sirens to let the crowd know, just in case the screaming masses hadn’t happened to realize that Gareth Emery was now in control. He came out with straight thumpers; pulsing beats of the trance variety. Emery controlled the force like Anakin Skywalker, only without the fear. He was relentless, nimbly thumbing through his CD book looking for the next gem that would inspirit, invigorate and inspire the crowd. Blasting the people with ear piercing, euphoric melodies trumpeting over driving, earth shattering bass lines, Emery was one with the music. Usually when we go out, it’s to hear a DJ spin tracks. Gareth however sent more than just music through the speakers. The signal he sent was that of utter joy, it was like he was channeling a piece of himself through the mixer. Hands clapping, body leaping off the ground and singing to himself, it was clear that he is just as at home behind the decks as he would be in the crowd. He truly loves trance and it was evident as he raised his arms in victory and promptly marched around, as if the DJ booth were a victory circle and he had just won Olympic gold.

Gareth Emery headlines at Glow on February 13th 2010!

Gareth Emery at Glow Washington DC Nightclubs in DC

Even though 2009 hit many hard with the recession, for Gareth Emery, last year proved to be most rewarding and satisfying. Gareth landed himself a nice spot at #9 on the DJ Mag Top 100 and spent more time at Beatport’s trance chart than any other artist. Gareth started at age four, playing the piano and rocked in bands from grade sixth to college, headlining for acts such as Oasis and Green Day in Southampton’s (UK) Joiners. When interviewed or written about, Gareth still carries association with trance. I had a chance to catch up with this young 30 year-old EDM star on his way back from his last gig in Seoul, Korea.

John Dahlback rocked 4play at Ultrabar

It seems as though Sweden is going through a sort of musical renaissance as of late, exemplified by bands such as Miike Snow, singers like Lykke Li and in the EDM world, the Swedish House Mafia. Thursday night however belonged to one John Dahlback, whose uplifting yet stylishly gritty brand of house flooded Ultrabar and churned a sea of humanity. With the mixer as his trident, twisting EQ knobs, controlling loops, and dropping thunderous bass lines, Dahlback was like Poseidon controlling the waves. He was a human oscillator, modulating the frequency of the crowd with every tweak of his high pass filter, defying gravity and creating tidal waves of gamboling partygoers. It was refreshing to see a DJ walk into a booth with nothing but a pair of headphones and a CD book. His work – flow is a thing of beauty. Watching John sway to and fro while hovering over the 1s and 2s, elbows out, fingers nimbly manipulating each and every sound… the entire process was a work of art.

Steve Angello to tear it up at Glow this Saturday 2/6/10

The legend himself, Steve Angello, is coming to DC this Saturday to headline at Glow at Fur Nightclub DC. From his killer 2004 breakout track with Eric Prydz “Woz not Woz”, Steve Angello’s career has exploded across the international scene. Some of his hits include: “Teasing Mr. Charlie”, “Click”, “In Beat”, “Get Dumb”, “Gypsy”, “Be”, “Show me Love”, “Leave the World Behind”, and so many more. His list of remixes is equally extensive as well, collaborating with Moby, Goldfrapp, Royksopp, Deep Dish, Eric Prydz, and so many more.

Those who braved the elements, who manned up on a frigid 13 degree Thursday night, those who truly care about quality house music, they were the ones rewarded. Like a man possessed, one of two anointed Space Ibiza “Terrace Kings,” Nic Fanciulli came out of the gates in full stride. Controlling Ultrabar’s pulse with thumping bass lines, he layered textured melodies one on top of the other in a copious, emboldening, super tough set. Heineken in hand, Nic wore a devious grin the entire night, knowing that every build up would only lead to more insanity. The cry of dissonant sirens over the build on Joris Voorn’s latest gem (currently unreleased) was like throwing raw meat to a pack of piranhas; devoured by a crowd hungry for more.
